IBM WebSphere Message Broker 6.1 before 6.1.0.12, 7.0 before 7.0.0.6, and 8.0 before 8.0.0.2 does not validate Basic Authentication credentials before proceeding to WS-Addressing and WS-Security operations, which allows remote attackers to trigger transmission of unauthenticated messages via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2013 as swg21623316 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is available at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-5952 since 11/21/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

Upgrading to version 6.1.0.12 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch APAR IC89803 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
