The manipulation of the argument fileId with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the AjaxFileUpload control in DevExpress AJAX Control Toolkit (aka AjaxControlToolkit) before 15.1 allows remote attackers to write to arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the fileId parameter to AjaxFileUploadHandler.axd.
The weakness was released 08/18/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-4670 since 06/19/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
