A vulnerability was found in Linux-PAM up to 1.2.0 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function _unix_run_helper_binary of the component pam_unix Module. The _unix_run_helper_binary function in the pam_unix module in Linux-PAM (aka pam) before 1.2.1, when unable to directly access passwords, allows local users to enumerate usernames or cause a denial of service (hang) via a large password.
The weakness was published 08/24/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at trustwave.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3238 since 04/10/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
