A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in GnuTLS up to 3.3.16/3.4.3 (Network Encryption Software). This affects an unknown function of the component DN Handler. Double free vulnerability in GnuTLS before 3.3.17 and 3.4.x before 3.4.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a long DistinguishedName (DN) entry in a certificate.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168030 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for gnutls (SUSE-SU-2015:1518-1)).
Upgrading to version 3.3.17 or 3.4.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 21628.
