A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Netgear DGN2200B Firmware 1.0.0.36_7.0.36 (Wireless LAN Software). This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file wlg_sec_profile_main.cgi. The manipulation of the argument SSID with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 12/17/2012. The weakness was released 02/16/2013 by Michael Messner (m1k3) with s3cur1ty as m1adv2013-015 as not defined bulletin (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at s3cur1ty.de. The vendor was not involved in the public release. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
