This issue affects the function ff_rv34_decode_init_thread_copy of the file libavcodec/rv34.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The ff_rv34_decode_init_thread_copy function in libavcodec/rv34.c in FFmpeg before 2.7.2 does not initialize certain structure members, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid pointer access) via crafted (1) RV30 or (2) RV40 RealVideo data.
The weakness was released 09/06/2015 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at git.videolan.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-6826 since 09/05/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
