Use-after-free vulnerability in the nsImageLoadingContent::OnStopContainer function in Mozilla Firefox before 19.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.3, Thunderbird before 17.0.3, Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.3, and SeaMonkey before 2.16 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted web script.

The weakness was released 02/19/2013 by Inferno as MFSA 2013-26 as confirmed advisory (Mozilla Blog). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-0775 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a private exploit are known.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68732 (Oracle Linux 5 / 6 : firefox (ELSA-2013-0271)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120882 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2013:0271)).

Upgrading to version 19.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
