The weakness was disclosed 09/11/2015 by Praveen Darshanam (Website). The advisory is available at ics-cert.us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-9208 since 12/02/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123941 (Advantech WebAccess Multiple ActiveX Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilites).
