A vulnerability has been found in Mozilla Firefox 0.9 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component File Name Handler. The manipulation with the input value %00 leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Heap-based buffer overflow in the SendUidl in the POP3 capability for Mozilla before 1.7, Firefox before 0.9, and Thunderbird before 0.7, may allow remote POP3 mail servers to execute arbitrary code.
The bug was discovered 08/03/2004. The weakness was presented 08/04/2004 by Pavel Kankovsky (zen-parse) as Bug 250906 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-0757 since 08/02/2004. The attack can be initiated remotely.
