The ParseValue function in lexer.c in tidy before 4.9.31 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via vectors involving multiple whitespace characters before an empty href, which triggers a large memory allocation.
The weakness was disclosed 09/16/2015 by Fernando Muñoz with NULLGroup.com as HT205212 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-5523 since 07/14/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
