A vulnerability was found in vorbis-tools up to 1.4.0. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function aiff_open of the file oggenc/audio.c of the component AIFF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in the aiff_open function in oggenc/audio.c in vorbis-tools 1.4.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted AIFF file.
The weakness was disclosed 09/21/2015 (Website). The advisory is available at trac.xiph.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-6749 since 08/30/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
