A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Apache Tomcat up to 7 (Application Server Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Log Directory Permissions. The manipulation as part of a User Permission leads to a access control vulnerability. ** DISPUTED ** Apache Tomcat 7.x uses world-readable permissions for the log directory and its files, which might allow local users to obtain sensitive information by reading a file. NOTE: One Tomcat distributor has stated "The tomcat log directory does not contain any sensitive information."
The weakness was shared 02/22/2013 by Agostino Sarubbo as not defined mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-0346 since 12/06/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
