A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Microsoft Exchange 5.5 (Groupware Software). This affects some unknown processing of the component Outlook Web Access HTML Redirection Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a html injection vulnerability. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Outlook Web Access for Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 4 allows remote attackers to insert arbitrary script and spoof content in HTML email or web caches via an HTML redirect query.
The bug was discovered 08/10/2004. The weakness was presented 08/10/2004 by Amit Klein with Sanctum Inc. as MS04-026 as confirmed bulletin (Technet).
