A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Liam McLoughlin Raspberry Pi Firmware Updater (Firmware Software) (the affected version unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the file updateScript.sh of the component Update Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity.
The weakness was published 02/28/2013 by Technion as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. Local access is required to approach this attack. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
