A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform up to 6.4.3 (Application Server Software). Affected is an unknown function of the component HTTP Management Interface. The manipulation as part of a Large Header leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The Web Console in Red Hat Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) before 6.4.4 and WildFly (formerly JBoss Application Server) allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a large request header.
The weakness was released 10/15/2015 by Aaron Ogburn and Jason Greene as RHSA-2015:1908-01 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-5220 since 07/01/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86411 (RHEL 5 : JBoss EAP (RHSA-2015:1904)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks. Upgrading to version 6.4.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
