A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in ownCloud Desktop Client up to 1.8.1 (Cloud Software). This issue affects the function QNetworkReply::ignoreSslErrors. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a certificate host validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-297. The product communicates with a host that provides a certificate, but the product does not properly ensure that the certificate is actually associated with that host. Impacted is confidentiality. ownCloud Desktop Client before 1.8.2 does not call QNetworkReply::ignoreSslErrors with the list of errors to be ignored, allows man-in-the-middle attackers to bypass the user's certificate distrust decision and obtain sensitive information by leveraging a self-signed certificate and a connection to a server using its own self-signed certificate.

The weakness was disclosed 10/26/2015 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at owncloud.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-4456 since 06/09/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
