CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0/12.1.2.0/12.1.3.0/12.2.1.0 (Application Server Software). It has been declared as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the file oracle_common/modules/com.bea.core.apache.commons.collections.jar of the component WLS Security Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

The WLS Security component in Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0, 12.1.2.0, 12.1.3.0, and 12.2.1.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a crafted serialized Java object in T3 protocol traffic to TCP port 7001, related to oracle_common/modules/com.bea.core.apache.commons.collections.jar. NOTE: the scope of this CVE is limited to the WebLogic Server product.

The weakness was presented 11/18/2015 by Matthias Kaiser (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-4852 since 06/24/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 02/04/2025). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1202 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by SlidingWindow and been published 3 years after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as attacked. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 87011 (Oracle WebLogic Java Object Deserialization RCE), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86362 (Oracle WebLogic Server Multiple Unspecified Vulnerabilities (CPUJAN2016)). The CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog lists this issue since 11/03/2021 with a due date of 05/03/2022:

Apply updates per vendor instructions.

Proper firewalling of tcp/7001 is able to address this issue. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 21398.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (42806), Tenable (87011), SecurityFocus (BID 77539†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-56350†).
