A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Debian dpkg up to 1.16.16/1.17.25. This affects the function extracthalf of the file dpkg-deb/extract.c of the component dpkg-deb. Off-by-one error in the extracthalf function in dpkg-deb/extract.c in the dpkg-deb component in Debian dpkg 1.16.x before 1.16.17 and 1.17.x before 1.17.26 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via the archive magic version number in an "old-style" Debian binary package, which triggers a stack-based buffer overflow.
The weakness was released 12/03/2015 by Hanno Boeck (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.debian.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-0860 since 01/07/2015.
