Microsoft Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, and Windows 7 SP1 mishandle library loading, which allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted application, aka "Windows Library Loading Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 12/08/2015 by Steven Vittitoe with Google Project Zero as MS15-132 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-6128 since 08/14/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 87261 (MS15-132: Security Update for Microsoft Windows to Address Remote Code Execution (3116162)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91132 (Microsoft Windows Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-132)).
Applying the patch MS15-132 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
