This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-7082 since 09/16/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. Multiple vulnerabilities existed in Git versions prior to 2.5.4. These were addressed by updating Git to version 2.5.4.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 87737 (Apple Xcode < 7.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (Mac OS X)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370197 (Apple Xcode v7.2 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-12-08-6)).

Upgrading to version 7.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
