A vulnerability was found in Microsoft .NET Framework up to 4.6 (Programming Language Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Font File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The weakness was shared 12/08/2015 as MS15-128 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-6108 since 08/14/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91140 (Microsoft Windows Graphics Component Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-128)).
Applying the patch MS15-128 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
