A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Google Android 4.1 (Smartphone Operating System). This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component APK Installer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a authentication spoofing vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-290. This attack-focused weakness is caused by incorrectly implemented authentication schemes that are subject to spoofing attacks. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was presented 03/14/2013 by Jann Horn as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The vendor was not involved in the public release. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 4.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
