A vulnerability was found in Apple QuickTime up to 7.7.8 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Movie File Handler. Apple QuickTime before 7.7.9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted movie file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2015-7085, CVE-2015-7086, CVE-2015-7087, CVE-2015-7088, CVE-2015-7090, CVE-2015-7091, CVE-2015-7092, and CVE-2015-7117.
The weakness was presented 01/09/2016 by Ryan Pentney and Richard Johnson with Cisco Talos as HT205638 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-7089 since 09/16/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
