A vulnerability was found in Apple QuickTime up to 7.7.8 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component TXXX Frame Handler. Apple QuickTime before 7.7.9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer overflow and application crash) via a crafted TXXX frame within an ID3 tag in MP3 data in a movie file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2015-7085, CVE-2015-7086, CVE-2015-7087, CVE-2015-7088, CVE-2015-7089, CVE-2015-7090, CVE-2015-7091, and CVE-2015-7117.
The weakness was released 01/09/2016 with Jaanus Kp Clarified Security as HT205638 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-7092 since 09/16/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
