A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in ISC BIND up to 9.8.8/9.9.8-P2/9.9.8-S3/9.10.3-P2 (Domain Name Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file apl_42.c of the component Address Prefix List Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. apl_42.c in ISC BIND 9.x before 9.9.8-P3 and 9.9.x and 9.10.x before 9.10.3-P3 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (INSIST assertion failure and daemon exit) via a malformed Address Prefix List (APL) record.
The weakness was shared 01/19/2016 as AA-01335 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at kb.isc.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-8704 since 12/30/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
