A vulnerability has been found in SOS SOSreport up to 3.2 (Reporting Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file /etc/fstab. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-59. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The weakness was disclosed 12/18/2015 by Mateusz Guzik with Red Hat (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-7529 since 09/29/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 87499 (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 15.04 / 15.10 : sosreport vulnerabilities (USN-2845-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
