This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-1943 since 01/20/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Security researcher Jordi Chancel reported two issues involving addressbar spoofing.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 88512 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (4f00dac0-1e18-4481-95af-7aaad63fd303)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168483 (OpenSuSE Security Update for Mozilla Firefox (openSUSE-SU-2016:0306-1)).
Upgrading to version 44 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
