A vulnerability was found in RoundCube up to 1.0.7/1.1.3 (Mail Client Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function set_skin of the file program/include/rcmail_output_html.php. The manipulation of the argument _skin with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the set_skin function in program/include/rcmail_output_html.php in Roundcube before 1.0.8 and 1.1.x before 1.1.4 allows remote authenticated users with certain permissions to read arbitrary files or possibly execute arbitrary code via a .. (dot dot) in the _skin parameter to index.php.
The weakness was released 01/29/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at htbridge.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-8770 since 01/12/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l. Upgrading to version 1.0.8 or 1.1.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
