A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in GNU Samba (File Transfer Software). This affects the function FindNextPrintChangeNotify. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-404. smbd in Samba before 2.2.11 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) by sending a FindNextPrintChangeNotify request without a previous FindFirstPrintChangeNotify, as demonstrated by the SMB client in Windows XP SP2.
The bug was discovered 08/26/2004. The weakness was presented 08/12/2004 by Craig Huegen with Samba Team (Website). The advisory is shared at us1.samba.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-0829 since 09/02/2004. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
