Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 3.10 (Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function ims_pcu_parse_cdc_data of the file drivers/input/misc/ims-pcu.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The ims_pcu_parse_cdc_data function in drivers/input/misc/ims-pcu.c in the Linux kernel before 4.5.1 allows physically proximate attackers to cause a denial of service (system crash) via a USB device without both a master and a slave interface.
The weakness was shared 03/30/2016 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-3689 since 03/30/2016. Local access is required to approach this attack. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
