Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in MeshCMS 3.6. This affects some unknown functionality of the component DownloadServlet. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality.
The weakness was disclosed 04/05/2016 as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (112032). The entries VDB-81655 and VDB-81656 are pretty similar. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
