A vulnerability was found in Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions (version unknown). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function in the library fp30reg.dll of the component Debug Function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Buffer overflow in the debug functionality in fp30reg.dll of Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) 2000 and 2002 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted chunked encoded request.
The weakness was disclosed 11/11/2003 by Brett Moore. It is possible to read the advisory at MS03-051. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2003-0822. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C and been published 2 days after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at packetstormsecurity.org. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11923 (Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions (fp30reg.dll) Debug Function Remote Overflow (MS03-051 / 813360)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
