The weakness was disclosed 04/12/2016 with Microsoft as MS16-045 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-0089 since 12/04/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 90438 (MS16-045: Security Update for Windows Hyper-V (3143118)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91200 (Microsoft Windows Security Update for Hyper-V (MS16-045)).
Applying the patch MS16-045 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
