A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 up to Server 2012 R2 (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. The weakness was released 04/12/2016 with Microsoft as MS16-039 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-0145 since 12/04/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 90433 (MS16-039: Security Update for Microsoft Graphics Component (3148522)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91204 (Microsoft Windows Graphics Component Security Update (MS16-039)).
