The weakness was released 04/12/2016 with Microsoft as MS16-044 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-0153 since 12/04/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 90437 (MS16-044: Security Update for Windows OLE (3146706)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91198 (Microsoft Windows OLE Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS16-044)).
Applying the patch MS16-044 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 24137.
