A vulnerability was found in Mercur Messaging 2005 (version unknown) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the file readmessage.ctml. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability (File). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity.
The weakness was released 05/02/2005 by Dr_insane (Website). The advisory is shared at osvdb.org. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
