The manipulation of the argument spaw_root with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. Multiple PHP remote file inclusion vulnerabilities in CMS-Bandits 2.5 and earlier, when register_globals is enabled, allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code via a URL in the spaw_root parameter in (1) dialogs/img.php and (2) dialogs/td.php.
The weakness was disclosed 06/08/2006 by Federico Fazzi (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-2928 since 06/09/2006. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
A public exploit has been developed by Federico Fazzi and been published before and not just after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:img.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
