Google Chrome OS before 26.0.1410.57 relies on a Pango pango-utils.c read_config implementation that loads the contents of the .pangorc file in the user s home directory, and the file referenced by the PANGO_RC_FILE environment variable, which allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via crafted configuration data.

The weakness was disclosed 04/08/2013 by Pinkie Pie as not defined changelog entry (Website). The advisory is available at googlechromereleases.blogspot.ch. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0927 since 01/07/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/05/2018). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.
