Details
A vulnerability was found in WebkitGTK+ up to 1.10.2 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function childrenChanged/setRecalcListItems of the file WebCore/html/HTMLSelectElement.cpp. The manipulation of the argument select with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2013 by Chris Fleizach as not defined changelog entry (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at trac.webkit.org. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
After 3 months, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at trac.webkit.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 2.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at trac.webkit.org.
