The clone_mnt function in fs/namespace.c in the Linux kernel before 3.8.6 does not properly restrict changes to the MNT_READONLY flag, which allows local users to bypass an intended read-only property of a filesystem by leveraging a separate mount namespace.

The weakness was published 03/27/2013 by Andy Lutomirski as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-1957 since 02/19/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally.
