A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in TagIt Tagboard (Forum Software) (the affected version unknown). This issue affects an unknown part of the file CONFIG/errmsg.inc.php. The manipulation of the argument configpath with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was presented 02/12/2007 by M.Hasran Addahroni (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at echo.or.id. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-0900 since 02/13/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed in Perl and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:CONFIG/errmsg.inc.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
