A vulnerability was found in Microsoft IIS 5.0/5.1 (Web Server) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component WebDAV. Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 and 5.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a long WebDAV request with a (1) PROPFIND or (2) SEARCH method, which generates an error condition that is not properly handled.
The bug was discovered 05/28/2003. The weakness was released 05/28/2003 by Mark Litchfield with SPI Labs as MS03-018 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2003-0226 since 04/30/2003. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
