Google Chrome before 21.0.1180.82 on iOS makes certain incorrect calls to WebView methods that trigger use of an applewebdata: URL, which allows remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy and conduct Universal XSS (UXSS) attacks via vectors involving the document.write method.
The weakness was released 09/24/2012 by Lukasz Pilorz as confirmed changelog entry (Website). The advisory is shared at googlechromereleases.blogspot.dk. The public release was coordinated with Google. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-2899 since 05/19/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
