A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 3.8-rc3 (Operating System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function ioctl(TUNSETQUEUE) in the library CONFIG_TUN of the component TUN/TAP Devices. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The weakness was disclosed 01/10/2013 by Prasad J Pandit with Red Hat Security Response Team as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 3.8-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org.
