Format string vulnerability in the php_snmp_error function in ext/snmp/snmp.c in PHP before 5.5.34, 5.6.x before 5.6.20, and 7.x before 7.0.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via format string specifiers in an SNMP::get call.

The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-4071 since 04/23/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Multiple vulnerabilities existed in PHP versions prior to 5.5.34. These were addressed by updating PHP to version 5.5.34.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 91397 (Debian DLA-499-1 : php5 security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
