The maintenance service in Mozilla Firefox before 47.0 and Firefox ESR 45.x before 45.2 on Windows does not prevent MAR extracted-file modification during updater execution, which might allow local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse file.

The weakness was released 06/13/2016 by Jordi Chancel with Mozilla Developers (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-2826 since 03/01/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation.
