ber-decoder.c in Libksba before 1.3.3 does not properly handle decoder stack overflows, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (abort) via crafted BER data.
The weakness was disclosed 06/13/2016 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at security.gentoo.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-4353 since 04/29/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Upgrading to version 1.3.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
