A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010/2013/2016 (Groupware Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Oracle Outside In Libraries. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The weakness was presented 06/14/2016 by Will Dormann with CERT/CC as MS16-079 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-6013 since 08/14/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 91612 (MS16-079: Security Update for Microsoft Exchange Server (3160339)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 53004 (Microsoft Exchange Server Address Multiple Vulnerabilities (MS16-079)).

Applying the patch MS16-079 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
