Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in AtomicBoard (Forum Software) (version now known). This affects some unknown processing of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument location with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality.
The weakness was shared 01/01/2003. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11795 (AtomicBoard Multiple Remote Vulnerabilities (Traversal, Path Disc)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
