Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 4.5.2 (Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function usbip_recv_xbuff of the file drivers/usb/usbip/usbip_common.c. The manipulation as part of a USB/IP Packet leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The usbip_recv_xbuff function in drivers/usb/usbip/usbip_common.c in the Linux kernel before 4.5.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted length value in a USB/IP packet.
The weakness was presented 07/03/2016 by Marcus Meissner (Website). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-3955 since 04/05/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
